On the Road to Recovery - Luna

Luna is a 7 year old spayed female Border collie mix that presented for a chronic, painful limp on the left rear leg due to a partially torn ACL.

She is a rambunctious, happy dog with a Fire Constitution. Fire dogs love to be the center of attention, they are spontaneous and enthusiastic. Imbalance in the Fire element can result in excess heat in the body.

The tendons and ligaments are ruled by the liver. When Liver Blood deficiency occurs, the tendons and ligaments are not nourished by Blood and are prone to injury. Luna’s Fire constitution compounded the Liver Blood deficiency symptoms, making the (knee) ligaments and tendons even more brittle.

Luna receives acupuncture every 2-3 weeks. I do electro-acupuncture to reduce inflammation and relieve pain in her knee. Electro-acupuncture results in a more intense acupuncture treatment that lasts longer than traditional dry needle acupuncture.

I also do cold laser therapy directed inside the knee joint. Nogier frequencies have been shown to heal torn tendons.

She is on Chinese Herbs to nourish her Liver Blood and support her tendons and ligaments as well as cool her Heart Fire.

She is eating a healthier diet and gets a variety of nutritional supplements including Standard Process Musculoskeletal Support.
